The History of the Game Baccarat
Baccarat believed to have originated from a medieval card game, Tarrochi. This card game was played using a deck of tarot cards and was invented by Felix Falguierein. The basis for the invention of baccarat is an old Etruscan ritual, which decides the fate of a blonde virgin woman through a nine-sided die. The woman will throw the nine-sided die and the number that results from the throw has a corresponding consequence.
An eight or nine will make her a priestess. On the other hand, a throw that results into a six or seven will ban her from participating in any other from of religious activity. And much worse, she will be put to death by forcing her to walk into the sea if she threw a die which has a number less than six.
During the reign of King Charles VIII, baccarat was introduced in France. It became popular among the upper aristocracy of France that it made baccarat an exclusive game for the members of the noble class. This exclusiveness to the French aristocracy has made baccarat's image elegant and sophisticated that still persists up to now. Some baccarat games are even conducted in a roped area with two guards overlooking the game in progress.
When the French casinos opened, baccarat was featured as one of the main attractions. This made baccarat available to people of all walks of life. The French fell in love the game and it is common to see a game of baccarat in the local cafes and diners.
The French baccarat known as the "chemin de fer" became popular in the country and abroad. It served as the foundation of various baccarat versions and the modern baccarat played in casinos worldwide. "Chemin de fer" first reached England, where they change some rules of the game and its name into "European Baccarat". The English version served as the foundation of baccarat games played in South American countries and even the United States.
The American version of baccarat originally came from the Capri Casino in Havana, Cuba, which is mainly derived from European Baccarat. During the 1950s, Tommy Renzoni introduced baccarat in the United States of America when the Cuban government closed down the casinos around the country. Baccarat became so famous that it is even played in the world famous Dunes Casino.
An online version of baccarat was also developed at the advent of modern technology. People all over the world can now enjoy a game of baccarat in the comforts of their own home. True enough, baccarat is a card game that is loved and continually be loved for centuries to come.
